Volunteer

Café Lingua volunteers commit to hosting a weekly language exchange session for a language of their choice. Alternatively they can agree to co-host with a friend or an existing host, and split the responsibilities.

You can host a language session for your target language or a language you already speak. It’s OK to be a complete beginner in the language you’re hosting, as the purpose of these exchange groups is to learn together. If you’re a native speaker who simply wants to help others learn your language, even better!

Here are some examples of ways you could volunteer (but of course the time, day, length, and activities for your events are up to you and your language family to decide together):

  • 🇯🇵 Beginner’s Japanese (Tuesdays @ 6pm) as a non-Japanese speaker, online via Zoom
  • 🇺🇸 Beginner ASL (Saturdays @ 12pm) & 🇺🇸 Intermediate ASL (Sundays @ 12pm) as a native ASL speaker from the deaf community, at your local library
  • 🇪🇸 Spanish Karaoke (8pm on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month) & 🇫🇷 French Karaoke (8pm on the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month) as an intermediate Spanish and French speaker, online via Google Meet
  • 🇪🇹 Ethiopian Cooking in Amharic (Mondays @ 12pm) as a native Amharic speaker, at your local park

To ensure the safety and privacy of all our participants, all volunteers and participants in our weekly language exchange events are limited to members 18 years and older (or 16 with parent permission).

Currently we are primarily seeking volunteers to host our weekly language exchange event sessions, but if you would like to help out with any other pro-bono volunteer work such as a social media management, blog content creation, video production, marketing, etc., reach out to us through our contact form.

And while we are not hiring any paid positions at the moment, we plan to do so once we’ve completed our first round of fundraising in the near future. Volunteers who have shown exceptionalism will be first considered for our paid positions when they become available.
